Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ'S) about the Stoughton ABE/ESOL Program

 

Q. What is English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)?
  A. Adult ESOL or Englishfor Speakers of Other Languages is the term used to describe English language instruction for adults who are non-native speakers of English. English as a Second Language or ESL is alternately used in various parts of the United States.
Q. How long does it take to go through the program?

A. There are 6 levels: Level 1A/1B - Beginners, Level 2A/2B - Intermediate, Level 3A/3B - Advanced. Students spend one year at each level. Upon entering the program you will be tested and then placed into the corresponding level.
Q. How much does it cost?
  A. Classes are free. The program is funded by a grant from Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (ESE).
Q. Where are classes held?
  A. Classes are held at the Stoughton High School every Tuesday and Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. from September to June.
Q. How do I register?
  A. Student intakes are held 4 times throughout the school year. You will fill out an application form and be tested to determine your ESOL level. Click here or call the ABE Stoughton ESOL Program at 781-341-5173 for schedule.
