I am the Director or the PLAN/TRIO Program. I have worked in the area of higher education for more than 30 years. I began my career as a counselor in the MIT-Wellesley Upward Bound Program in Cambridge, Mass. Throughout the years I have served as a consultant, educator, practitioner and administrator within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts state college system with particular attention to the needs and empowerment of low income, underrepresented minority students and students with disabilities. Professionally, I served as President of the Massachusetts Education Opportunity Association, Secretary for New England Education Opportunity Association, Board Member of the Higher Education Resource Center and held memberships with NERCHE Minority Affairs Think Tank, the John D. O'Bryant Think Tank (JDOTT) and Brothers of the Academy (BOTA). As a TRIO Upward Bound Alumni, I graduated from Bentley College and hold a Masters in Counseling from Clark-Atlanta University in addition to Masters degrees from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and the Interdenominational Theological Center. When not at work, I enjoy serving as a pastor, playing my organ, surfing the internet, talking about current events and spending time with my family. My name is Michele Fitch and I am the Administrative Assistant for the PLAN Program; supporting both the staff and students we serve at Massasoit Community College . I first attended MCC in the Fall of 1994 as a CHOICES student and graduated in the Spring of 1997. I am currently enrolled in the Nursing Program and will graduate in May, 2008. My office is located in the PLAN Suite, lower level of the Student Center #SC 174 (next to the computer room) and you can reach me by phone at (508) 588-9100 x1061. I am a counselor and Learning/Disabilities Specialist for the PLAN Program. I have my Masters Degree in Counseling in Higher Education from Bridgewater State College, where I also did my undergraduate work in Special Education. I have been with the PLAN Program since January of 2001 and have over 25 years of experience working with students with disabilities. My favorite part of this job is assisting students in finding ways to fulfill their potential. If you need help with your academics, whether it be for a tutorial or comprehension skills, memory skills or time management; I am here to help you get it done. If you need someone to talk to about school or personal issues, I am here for you. My door is open; all you need to do is walk in! My office hours are 8:30-5:00, Monday through Friday. We work hard but also love to play. I enjoy taking students on cultural events and college trips for transferring to baccalaureate institutions. My favorite cultural event so far was white-water rafting. When I am not working, I like to spend time with my 3 sons and enjoy playing racquetball, painting, quilting, reading and traveling. Hello! I have been a Counselor for the PLAN Program since, Spring 2001. I have a bachelor's degree from Illinois State University and an M.Ed in Counseling and Development from George Mason University . I have worked in various positions over the past twenty years helping people sort through day-to-day responsibilities, crises and achieving personal goals. Being a part of the PLAN program provides me with the opportunity to empower students to achieve their goals. On my own time I enjoy family activities with my husband and two children.
