Massasoit Announces Board of Trustee Reappointment and Appointment

Brockton, MA - Massasoit Community College is pleased to announce the reappointment of Pamerson O. Ifill and appointment of Nelson G. Ross to the Board of Trustees. Mr. Ifill and Mr. Ross were sworn in before the Board meeting on November 14.

Pamerson O. Ifill of Taunton is the Chief Probation Officer at Suffolk County Superior Court and an adjunct professor at Suffolk University where he has taught courses including Childhood and Adolescence in Contemporary Society, Juvenile Justice and Probation and Parole Practices in the United States, among others. Mr. Ifill previously served for 13 years as the Regional Program Manager at the Office of Community Corrections in Boston, where he was responsible for the development, oversight and management of Intermediate Sanctions Programs and Services and community corrections centers in Barnstable, Bristol, Dukes and Plymouth counties. He earned an Associate’s Degree from Massasoit Community College, a Bachelor of Arts degree from Stonehill College and a Master’s degree in Management of Human Services from Brandeis University. He has served on the Board of Trustees at Massasoit Community College for 5 years and is filling the Chairmanship previously held by Dr. Mary Brophy.

Nelson G. Ross, a native of Brockton, is currently a consultant for Partners HealthCare System. Mr. Ross, a member of the Massachusetts Bar, is retired as a partner and head of the Labor and Employment Division of the law firm of Ropes and Gray; however, he continues to serve as counsel for the firm. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Boston University and a Juris Doctorate degree from Boston College Law School. He currently serves within his community as a member of the Hingham Personnel Board and as a Hingham Public Library Trustee. Mr. Ross is eager to help the College grow and fulfill its mission.

“I look forward to working with both of these gentlemen who will lend their expertise to the purpose of continued forward progress of the College,” said Massasoit’s president, Dr. Charles Wall.

Founded in 1966, in the heart of southeastern Massachusetts, Massasoit Community College is a public two-year college in the Massachusetts Public Higher Education System. It is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC), one of the six regional accrediting bodies in the United States. Many departments carry additional accreditations. The College offers a full spectrum of associate’s degree programs in arts, sciences, and applied sciences as well as one year and short term certificates across a variety of occupations and interests. In addition the College offers corporate and job skills training courses.

The 100-acre Brockton campus is the site of six academic buildings, a student center, library, child care facility, two theaters, radio and television studios, a field house, and athletic grounds. The Canton campus is a single facility situated on eighteen acres and is a full-service campus offering associate degree and certificate programs including diesel technology, architectural technology, engineering technology, dental assisting, medical assisting, HVAC, graphic design, criminal justice, liberal arts, and business.  The Canton campus is also home to the Milton Art Museum and Akillian Gallery. In the fall of 2010, Massasoit formally opened its newest academic site, the Middleborough Center. It has been approved to offer programs in Business Administration, Child Care, Criminal Justice, and Liberal Arts.
