|Brockton, MA - 38 colleges and universities from all over the New England region visited the Massasoit Community College’s Brockton Campus this week for a 3 ½ hour fair which was attended by approximately 500 students. This event has been on the Brockton Campus each fall for more than 25 years and is hosted by the Advisement and Counseling Center. 40% of Massasoit’s graduates transfer within one year of graduating and nearly 1/3 of students transfer even before they graduate. Community college students considering transferring to a four-year institution are generally very attractive to campus recruiters because of their proven commitment to higher education and ability to achieve positive results in college level work. The average of Massasoit’s student body is 26 years old; this too, offers four-year colleges and universities the opportunity to recruit mature, committed students.
The fair provides current community college students the opportunity to look at transfer options and to speak one on one with admissions representatives. Part of the mission of the fifteen Massachusetts Community Colleges is to offer open access to high quality, affordable academic programs, including associate degree and certificate programs and also to academic preparation for transfer to four-year institutions, career preparation for entry into high demand occupational fields, developmental coursework, and lifelong learning opportunities.
