|Massasoit Community College Respiratory Care Students Win a Respiratory Therapy Competition at the Massachusetts Society for Respiratory Care Annual Meeting in Sturbridge- Moving on to Nationals
On September 22, 2010, Massasoit respiratory care students attended the MSRC (Massachusetts Society for Respiratory Care) annual meeting in Sturbridge, Ma., accompanied by Department Chair of the Respiratory Care Department, Martha DeSilva.
A segment of the conference is the Sputum Bowl Competition. The sputum bowl is a contest between students from various colleges in the State of Massachusetts who are studying to become Respiratory Care Practitioners. Massasoit Community College’s team consisted of Michelle Rausen of Newton, Bonnie Royce of Braintree, Jennifer Killup of Middleboro, and Jameson Fernandes of New Bedford.
Massasoit was undefeated in the competition, winning four games, and ultimately the championship. “They were cheered on by their classmates who shared in their victory. This was truly a team effort between the contestants and peers from the College who supported and cheered them on,” said Professor Desilva. The students will now travel to the National Sputum Bowl Competition at the 56th International Respiratory Care Conference on December 6 – 9, 2010 in Las Vegas, Nevada. ?
