Brockton, MA (July 1, 2013) – Massasoit Community College is offering a 60-hour veterinary assistant certificate program that will begin on September 10, 2013. Classes are scheduled to meet Tuesdays 6:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and two Saturdays per session from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Offered for a limited time only at the Plymouth Chamber of Commerce, the program will equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to enter the veterinary field as a veterinary assistant.
Classes will be taught by Andrea Gouthro. Ms. Gouthro has a bachelor of science in animal veterinary science from the University of Rhode Island, and she became a certified veterinary technician in 2003. With over 18 years of experience in animal care, she is the current assistant director of community and shelter veterinary medicine for the Animal Rescue League of Boston. In addition to 15 years of veterinary technician experience, she possesses vast experience and knowledge in the areas of domestic animal behavior, veterinary technology, pet rescue and adoptions, public animal humane education, and animal welfare fundraising
Students will receive training in office and hospital procedures and pharmacy, lab and surgical procedures. Upon successful completion of the program, students will receive a veterinary assistant certificate.
