Massasoit History Professor Charles Mastrangelo Honored with 2014 Outstanding Public Service Award from Brockton Rotary Club

Massasoit Community College is pleased to announce that Charles Mastrangelo, Professor of History, was recently honored by the Rotary Club of Brockton with a 2014 Outstanding Public Service Award. A graduate of Massasoit Community College, Professor Mastrangelo has served as a member of the faculty of since 1997.

In his written nomination to the Rotary Club, Dr. Charles Wall, president of Massasoit Community College, highlighted Professor Mastrangelo’s involvement with Massasoit’s chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), the academic honor society for two-year colleges, both as a student as a faculty member. As a student, Mastrangelo served as president of the Massasoit chapter, earning the PTK Distinguished President Award; in 2005, he assumed the role of faculty advisor to the group. “In each of the 8 years Mastrangelo served as its advisor, the Massasoit chapter was given PTK’s highest ranking, Five-Star Chapter,” said Dr. Wall in his nomination. “His unwavering support for students and dedicated leadership of the chapter were recognized with the 2014 PTK Distinguished Advisor Award, one of 30 given nationwide, and the only one from New England. Though Professor Mastrangelo has passed the reins of leadership, he continues to provide counsel to the new advisors, and remains, as ever, available to assist any Massasoit student.”
Founded in 1966, in the heart of southeastern Massachusetts, Massasoit Community College is a public two-year college in the Massachusetts Public Higher Education System. It is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC), one of the six regional accrediting bodies in the United States. Many departments carry additional accreditations. The College offers a full spectrum of associate’s degree programs in arts, sciences, and applied sciences as well as one year and short term certificates across a variety of occupations and interests. In addition the College offers corporate and job skills training courses.
