Massasoit Community College Police Participate in Narcan Training
The College is one of the first of the community colleges in the state to certify and equip its police with the life-saving spray.
March 7, 2014
Brockton, MA – On March 6, 2014, Massasoit Community College police officers participated in a training session, conducted by High Point Treatment Center, focused on the proper administration of Narcan (naloxone) spray. Naloxone is a drug used to counter the effects of opioid overdose, for example an overdose caused by heroin or medical opiates such as morphine, Oxycontin, and codeine. It is specifically used to counteract life-threatening depression of the central nervous system and respiratory system.

“Since there has been a recent increase in heroin and other drug overdoses, we believe it is important for the community to know that Massasoit is taking this problem very seriously,” said Massasoit Police Chief, Christopher Cummings. “I believe it is important to share with our community that Massasoit police officers are aware and prepared. This is evidenced by the fact that the College’s police department is one of the first community college police departments in the Commonwealth to be certified and equipped with this life-saving spray.”
Founded in 1966, in the heart of southeastern Massachusetts, Massasoit Community College is a public two-year college in the Massachusetts Public Higher Education System. It is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC), one of the six regional accrediting bodies in the United States. Many departments carry additional accreditations. The College offers a full spectrum of associate’s degree programs in arts, sciences, and applied sciences as well as one year and short term certificates across a variety of occupations and interests. In addition the College offers corporate and job skills training courses.
