|The Visual Arts department is pleased to announce that Kelliann Jarasitis received the Arches Paper Award at the juried 7th Arches Student Print Exhibition for her monotype portrait titled “Pumpkin Bowl”. This student exhibition will be shown in conjunction with the Boston Printmakers’ North American Print Biennial from February 27-May 1, 2011 at the Danforth Museum, Framingham, MA. Printmaking students from twenty-one New England art schools, colleges and universities submitted their best work to this prestigious juried exhibition sponsored by the Arches Paper Company. This is the first time Massasoit Community College students have participated in the Arches Student Print Exhibition. Fourteen prints by eleven student printmakers were juried into the show. Congratulations to the following students: Zachariah Cobb, Beth Cox, Nurbaity Faris, Nuriman Faris, Greg Ferguson, Kelliann Jarasitis, David McGuirk, Paul Valley, Rafael Varela-Manso, Kathleen Walker, Erika Williams. Special thanks to Professor Karen Hays for helping to prepare the student work for this show.
The Visual Arts program at Massasoit continues to attract a dedicated group of printmakers and students. The Ink Monkeys, a print collaborative made up of students, alumni and faculty, sponsor a number of free printing events throughout the year to educate and share the joys of printmaking with the public at large. They will be hosting a silkscreen event at the upcoming Sensation Day at the Fuller Craft Museum on February 21st and will have a number of free printmaking events at this year’s 3rd Annual Arts Festival on Sunday, May 22nd. Professor Linda Dunn, printmaker, teacher and founder of the Ink Monkeys, recently received a Merit Award at the 2nd National Juried Monotype & Monoprint Exhibition at the Fitchburg Art Museum. She is currently showing one of her monoprints with her students at the Danforth Museum.
Fine Arts student Kelliann Jarasitis was featured this past December at the Stoughton Public Library in her first solo art exhibition. Kelliann has also exhibited at Smallworks, Newport Art Museum, created the mural in the lobby of the Hanson School in Stoughton, and her illustrations have been published in the Massasoit newspaper, “The Student Voice”. She received the Alice L. Wall Award for Best of Show at the Massasoit Arts Festival held in Canton this past spring. She plans to continue her education at Bridgewater State University next fall.
