|Brockton, MA – The13th Annual Credit for Life Fair hosted by Massasoit Community College and organized by the Financial Literacy Committee and Credit for Life Committee of the Brockton Housing Partnership will be held for 250 Brockton High School students, and additional youth from YouthBuild and MYTURN. The event will be held in the Asiaf Field House on the Brockton campus on Thursday, April 25, 2013 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The Credit for Life Fair is a financial education opportunity for high school students and young adults. Brockton High School students spend a semester learning the basics of personal finance in their business classes. The lesson culminates with students participating in an interactive fair in which they select an occupation, are given a salary, and must visit vendors to decide what lifestyle choices their budget allows them. At the end of the exercise, they meet with financial advisors who go over their choices and help them understand the repercussions.
Caution with Credit and Massachusetts State Treasury have commended Brockton High School and all the organizations that have instituted these fairs The successful collaboration of local government, schools, colleges, and business people has helped to educate hundreds of local youth on the realities of credit, debt and how to manage their finances more responsibly.
Representatives from over 25 area businesses donate their time to help students learn about budgeting, finances, and credit.
