Getting Ready for Your Online Course

Start HereYou should complete the following checklist before the first day of classes. Each of these steps is necessary to successfully access and participate in your online course! If you have questions, contact the Office of Online Learning at onlinelearning@massasoit.mass.edu.

All Online courses begin the first day of the semester.

1. Make sure an online course is for you.
Online learning courses can be fun, exciting, challenging, convenient, and enriching. However, online learning courses are not for everyone. Taking an online course requires the same commitment of time, study, and effort as a face-to-face course plus a high degree of self-motivation, self-discipline, and independence. To determine if you will feel comfortable in this learning environment, please take about five minutes to complete an easy, fun quiz – Is an Online Course Right for You?

2. Orientation
You are strongly encouraged to participate in an Course Orientation.

Note:
If you are taking an Online Mathematics Course, MyMathLab will be used as the primary online tool throughout your math course.  You will be oriented to MyMathLab by your instructor at the beginning of your course. Prior to the start of the semester, your instructor will email you a syllabus with directions for accessing MyMathLab and other important course information.  If you would still like to learn about Blackboard CE8, where you will get your course syllabus and directions for accessing MyMathLab, consider looking at the Online Student Orientation.

3. Get your books at the Massasoit bookstore.
You can order your textbook online or go to Brockton or Canton Bookstore to buy your books.

Many courses use additional software such as MyBusinessLab, MyMathLab, Mastering Biology, etc.   If your course uses one of these products, it is important you purchase the access code before the course begins.  The bookstore will be able to determine if you need an access code in addition to a text.

4. Begin your course on the first day of classes.
You are responsible for beginning your class on time. Instructions for accessing your course can be found in the Student Getting Started Guide. Please note that some online courses are NOT available to students until the first official day of classes.
