AMA's Physician Directory - Provides basic professional information on virtually every licensed physician in the U.S. and its possessions. Search by physician’s name or medical specialty.(American Medical Association)
American Medical Association - Health Information - AMA Homepage includes information and latest medical topics of concern.
Cancer - Provides information on cancer (types, treatment, prevention, etc.), clinical trials, research programs and statistics. (National Cancer Institute)
Diabetes - Wealth of information about different aspects of diabetes-types, symptoms, tests, prevention, research, nutrition, advocacy and legal resources. There are special sections for parents & kids and community programs & local events. Available in Spanish. (American Diabetes Association)
Healthfinder - Information about health divided into four categories: 1. Health library on topics from A-Z, including medical dictionaries, encyclopedias and journals, 2.“Just for you” with information organized by interest groups (age, gender, race, etc.),3. Health care, and 4. Healthfinder directory with links to selected health information Web sites. It is available in Spanish and also has a Kids site.
Healthtouch - Reorganized into four parts: 1. Medication guide; 2. Vitamins, supplement & natural medicines; 3. Health Information; and 4. Health Resources, which provides links to major medical groups websites.
HerbMed - Interactive, electronic herbal database – provides hyperlinked access to the scientific data underlying the use of herbs for health. It is an impartial, evidence-based information resource for professionals, researchers, and general public, provided by the Alternative Medicine Foundation. Some herbs available in enhanced subscription version.
HIV/AIDS Information - Click on the menu options on the left to access information about key topics, fact sheets, conference abstracts, publications, links and so on. On the right side of the screen there is an “Ask the Doc” link to get unbiased, state-of-the-art information about any facet of the HIV epidemic. Available in Spanish.
KidsHealth - Health information about children from before birth through adolescence. Site organizes material by age and interest level: parents, kids, teens.
Longwood Herbal Task Force - Information on herbs and dietary supplements. Includes long articles and patient care sheets.
Massachusetts Department of Public Health - Current health warnings, publications from MA health agencies, and statistics.
Massaschusetts Physicians Profiles - Access information about the education, training, and experience of all licensed MA physicians.
MassResources - Click on "Health Care Programs" on left side of home page.
The Merck Manual of Diagnosis and Therapy - Searchable. Available in English, French, and Spanish. Loading may be slow but the information is worth the wait.
National Center for Complementary & Alternative Medicine - with the National Institutes of Health provides information on health, research, & clinical trials of nontraditional medicine.
Nutrition - Department of Agriculture's nutrition database. Food facts, food safety, and lifecycle issues.
PUBMED - Searchable database from the National Library of Medicine.
Virtual Hospital - Digital health sciences library with the goal to educate patients, healthcare providers, and students in a free and anonymous manner.
Medem Medical Library - Scroll down to find multiple areas of health issues.
Martindale Reference Desk - Scroll down to the Health Center. This site offers links for a wide variety of subject areas.
Quackwatch - Recommended by Choice Magazine, this site offers essays comparing misleading claims to medical knowledge gained through scientific method.
Medical Encyclopedia - Offers 4,000 articles on diseases, tests, symptoms, injuries and surgeries. Recommended 2/08 Choice magazine.
Finding and Evaluating Health Information - A User's Guide to Finding and Evaluating Health Information on the Web - sponsored by the Medical Library Association.
Stem Cell Information Center - Sponsroed by the National Institutes of Health. Thsi site includes a glossary of terms, pictures and downloads.
Genes and Disease - Site summarizes more than 80 genetic disorders. Fully searchable. Produced by National Center for Biotechnology Information. Choice 3/2009.
