Massasoit Community College Library is committed to providing a quiet, welcoming, respectful atmosphere conducive to study and research in an environment that is comfortable, clean, and safe for both library users and staff. Any behavior that interferes with the operation of the Library or its users may be considered disruptive. Prohibited behaviors include, but are not limited to, excessive noise, intimidation, abuse, or other disruptive actions. At the discretion of staff, disruptive users may be asked to move to another area or leave the Library entirely. If the user refuses to comply, Campus Police will be contacted for assistance.
The conduct of any individual using the Library is governed by all College policies, including the Student Code of Conduct which states that a student acting in a manner or participating in an event which disrupts the normal operations of the College and the learning environment and infringes on the rights of other members of the College community shall be subject to disciplinary sanctions.
The following minimum standards of conduct are to be observed in the Library.
- All activities in the library will be conducted in a quiet manner to avoid disturbing other library users.
- Headphones must be used on any device that emits sound so that sounds from any personal electronic equipment including laptops, audio players, and other mobile devices are inaudible to other users.
- Users are required to show valid identification upon request from Library Staff or Campus Police.
- Users should refrain from loud or disruptive conversations and/or behaviors.
- Threatening, offensive, or abusive language and behavior is prohibited.
- Smoking (or using smokeless tobacco) in the Libraries is prohibited.
- Users who are socializing and disrupting the Library's quiet atmosphere will be asked to cease such activity, or leave the Library.
- Library employees reserve the right to wake sleeping users.
