Textile Recycling at Massasoit Community College
Updated February 2014

Massasoit Community College
and Bay State Textiles have joined forces to recycle textiles on the Brockton and Canton Campuses.

This partnership is a win-win for Massasoit and for the environment -for every ton of textiles we recycle, Bay State Textiles will donate $100 to Massasoit!

Where are these bins located?

textile recycling bins In Brockton:
- Parking lot behind Fine Arts Building
- Student parking lot, across from B Building

In Canton:
- Courtyard behind Cafeteria
- Back parking lot, behind Diesel Lab

Why Textile Recycling
95% of textiles worn or torn in the US can be recycled, yet
Only 15% actually is donated or recycled
85% gets thrown out and goes to landfills or incinerators

Acceptable Items for Textile Recycling
The following items can be recycled in any condition as long as they are dry and odor-free:
  • Clothing of all types
  • Shoes, boots, flip flops, slippers (including single items)
  • Bedding – comforters, bedspreads, sheets, pillows, blankets
  • Curtains, draperies, table cloths, placemats, towels
  • Purses, duffle bags, totes
  • Stuffed animals

If you have questions, please call Rich Hadley, ext. 1168, or Holly States, ext. 1377,
or visit the Bay State Textiles website at

We look forward to your participation in this recycling initiative. Thank you!
