| Textile Recycling Bins are available on both the Brockton and Canton (pictured here) Campuses for your convenience. |
April 2013
Massasoit Community College has partnered with Bay State Textiles to recycle textiles on the Brockton and Canton Campuses. This partnership is a win-win for Massasoit and for the environment! For every ton of textiles recycled, Bay State Textiles will donate $100 to Massasoit to support sustainability projects on our campuses.
In Brockton:
- Behind Fine Arts Building
- Next to Student Center (B-Building Side) |
In Canton:
- The Cafeteria Courtyard
- The rear parking lot behind Diesel Lab |
95% of textiles worn or torn in the US can be recycled, yet
Only 15% actually is donated or recycled
85% gets thrown out and goes to landfills or incinerators
Items Acceptable for Textile Recycling
The following items can be recycled in any condition as long as they are clean and dry:
- Clothing of all types, including coats, hats, scarves, belts, undergarments, ties
- Shoes, boots, flip flops, slippers (including single items)
- Bedding – comforters, bedspreads, sheets, pillows, blankets
- Curtains, draperies, table cloths, placemats, towels
- Purses, duffle bags, totes
- Stuffed animals
In keeping with our community college mission and our commitment to sustainability, Massasoit has partnered with More Than Words to recycle books, audio books, music CDs, DVDs, and video games on our Brockton campus.
Located in Waltham, More Than Words is a local, non-profit social enterprise that empowers youth who are in the foster care system, court involved, homeless, or out of school to take charge of their lives by taking charge of a business. More Than Words youth work as a team to manage their own retail and online bookstore and cafe, developing real skills and self-confidence as they transition to adulthood.
So, clear your shelves and transform lives! Recycle your used books, audio books, music CDs, DVDs, and video games by placing them in the More Than Words container behind the Student Center on our Brockton campus. You will not only be recycling but contributing to a worthy cause – and your donations are tax-deductible!*
More Than Words is not able to accept encyclopedias, magazines or periodicals, music cassettes, or mass market fiction books. Please click here for a complete list of items that can be recycled.
Please call Holly States (ext. 1377) or Frances Lim (ext. 1861) if you have questions.
*Tax-deduction receipt forms are available from Holly States: LA Bldg., Faculty & Instruction Offices, Room LA340 (hstates@massasoit.mass.edu, ext. 1377)
