Created in 1990 by Prof. Robert Bowers, Radio Classics Live is now in its 16th year, and it has raised and distributed more than $35,000 in scholarships to Massasoit graduates going on to a four-year college. Equally as important, Radio Classics Live has provided Massasoit students the rare opportunity to meet and learn from radio/TV professionals - actors, writers, directors, sound effects people - from the golden age of radio who were on the cutting edge of what was then the nation's primary communication and entertainment medium. The program also was designed to help us to reach out to the senior citizen community and provide them with two evenings of entertainment and nostalgia.

The Radio Classics Live program is held at The Buckley Performing Arts Center, a first-class theater facility that is part of the Massasoit campus. Radio Classics is a production of the Massasoit Radio Players, a group of Massasoit faculty, staff and administrators who perform radio programs from radios golden years in effort to preserve an important part of Americas rich cultural history. No one involved with RCL is paid. All staff and performers work pro-bono -- performers receive travel and living expenses. Every dollar we raise above the actual expenses of the program goes into the scholarship fund administered
by The Massasoit Foundation, a nonprofit charitable foundation of Massasoit Community College.
