Since it's inception in 1974, Massasoit Community College Men's Soccer has developed into the premier community/junior college men's soccer program in New England. The reputation has grown beyond the local area, to an elite national status that has gained the respect from coaches and opponents all over the country. Massasoit has won two National Championships in 1986 and 1987 as well as 17 Region XXI New England Titles.
Coach Rui Estrela has been at the helm as head soccer coach since 2006. Coach Estrela, a former MCC Warrior helped lead the 1992 and 1993 teams to back to back New England Championships as well as two 3rd place finishes in the NJCAA National Tournament. Estrela transferred to the University of Hartford (NCAA Div. I) with a full scholarship.
Coach Estrela began his college coaching career while completing his BA in Business Information Systems at the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth. Rui was the assistant men's soccer coach for the Corsairs from 1998-2000. He was instrumental in the progress of the team as evident in their 3rd place finish in the 2000 ECAC Tournament. Coach Estrela joined the MCC coaching staff in 2003 as the men's assistant coach, and helped the Warriors to back to back New England Championships in 2004 and 2005.
Coach Estrela resides in Somerset with his wife Donna, and their daughters Sophia and Grace.
