|Rui Estrela enters his eighth season at the helm of the head coach of the Massasoit CC men’s soccer program.
Estrela has led the Warriors to five NJCAA New England Championships and seven straight seasons of 12-plus victories. Overall, Estrala has been associated with the Warriors’ soccer program for 13 years, spending two years as a student-athlete and three as an assistant coach.
Estrela, who is approaching his 100th career coaching victory, guided the Warriors to an impressive season in 2012, posting a 12-4-1 record. He owns a career coaching record at Massasoit of 93-34-6, good for a 74.4 winning percentage.
Since taking over the program in 2006, Massasoit has won at least 12 matches a season under Estrela, including a 16-5 record in 2007 featuring eight shutouts, both best marks during Estrela’s tenure.
Estrela began his collegiate coaching career while completing his bachelor’s of arts in business information systems at the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth. Estrela served as an assistant coach for the men’s program for three seasons (1998-2000).
Estrela returned to Brockton to be on the Massasoit coaching staff at the start of the 2003 campaign as an assistant. Estrela helped guide the Warriors to back-to-back New England Championships in 2004 and 2005 before taking over as head coach in 2006.
During his playing career at MCC, Estrela was a catalyst in leading the Warriors to consecutive NJCAA New England Championships in 1992 and 1993 as the team also finished in third at the NJCAA National Tournament both seasons.
After two seasons as a Warrior, Estrela transferred to the University of Hartford on a full scholarship to compete for the Hawks’ men’s soccer program.
Estrela resides in Somerset, Mass., with his wife Donna and their two daughters, Sophia and Grace.
