Mike is entering his fourth season as head women's soccer coach at Massasoit community College. During his first season, the women posted a record of 2-8-0. Since then the Warriors have compiled a record or 17-25-2 and have qualified for the Region 21 Semi-Finals the past two years before losing to defending national champion Springfield Tech in 2006 and again in 2007, the eventual New England champions.
Mike has been coaching in the South Shore area for the past 12 years at both club and high school levels; working with such clubs as South Shore United and South Shore Select boys and girls youth teams. Additionally Coach Phipps coached two years at Stonehill College as the assistant men's soccer coach. From there, Mike moved on to become co-coach at Rockland High School for four years. This experience culminated in 2004 Rockland High School went 19-0-1 and received the number 1 seed in the MIAA tournament. Mike and his fellow coach were voted Enterprise Co-Coaches of the year.
Coach Phipps graduated from Rockland High School in 1994 where he played 4 years of varsity soccer, captaining the team his senior year. He also was voted to the Atlantic Coast League All Star first team and received all scholastic honorable mention for the Boston Globe and Brockton Enterprise. Following high school he continued playing at the college level at both Massasoit and Bridgewater State College. He currently resides in Rockland.
Additionally Mike has worked at many soccer camps in the area including the John Smith Soccer School, Whitman Hanson High School Panther Camp, Stonehill College Soccer Camp, as well as, directing the Massasoit Soccer Camp for the past two years.
Season Outlook:
“With a good nucleus of returning players and a very good freshman class we hope to have a winning season and return to the Region 21 New England Championships. As in past years I hope to have a few players named to the New England Region 21 Team which would be a clear indication of our success and hard work.”
