Subject to applicable waiting periods and other plan provisions, full-time faculty receive the following benefits:

Health and Basic Life Insurance – pre-tax premium deductions
Employees hired after July 1, 2003 pay 20% of their monthly health care premium and basic life insurance premium. Employees hired prior to July 1, 2003 pay 15% of their monthly health care premium and basic life insurance premium. All plans include a prescription drug benefit. The Commonwealth offers $5,000.00 mandatory Basic Life Insurance for a nominal cost. Health and Basic Life Insurance are pre-tax premium deductions.

Optional Life Insurance
New employees may apply for optional life insurance up to 8x their salary without the need for a medical review. If not enrolled at time of hire, employee must wait one year from date first eligible before enrolling. Current employees may apply for optional life insurance up to 8x your salary subject to a medical review at open enrollment or anytime during the year.

Dental Plan
MetLife Dental, family or individual, plan available at no cost to employee, cost is covered through Union dues. Available to employee on the first calendar day of the first calendar month following 6 full months of continuous service.

Long Term Disability
New employees may enroll in LTD, within 31 days of hire without providing evidence of good health. Current employees can apply for LTD coverage during annual enrollment, or any time during the year, however an evidence of insurability for insurance approval must be provided to enter the Plan.

State Retirement Plan - SERS
Defined benefit plan- State Employees Retirement System. Employee contributes 9% of pay (plus additional 2% of any earnings over $30,000). Vesting is 10 years after credible service. Deductions begin with first paycheck.

Optional Retirement Plan – ORP
Defined contribution plan through choice of TIAA-CREFF, VALIC or Lincoln Financial. Employees contribute 9% of salary (plus additional 2% of any earnings over $30,000). Vesting is immediate. Must choose within 90 days from date of hire to participate; State Retirement will continue to deduct until decision is made, able to roll over State Retirement contributions to ORP.

Tax Sheltered Annuity 403(b)
Employee can make pre-tax contributions to a 403(b) plan that may help reduce current taxes while you save for retirement. Please contact Human Resources for a complete list of approved vendors.

Dependent and Health Care Reimbursement
Annual Enrollment October - November for January 1st effective date
Dependent Care – Active state employees who have employment-related expenses for a dependent child under the age of 13 and/or a disabled adult dependent is eligible for DCAP. Program allows participant to contribute up to $5,000 per family annually on a pre-tax basis as a payroll deduction.
Health Care Reimbursement – Through this benefit, active employees can pay for non-covered health-related expenses on a pre-tax basis. Employees may contribute up to $2,500 annually on a pre-tax basis as a payroll deduction.

State Tuition Waiver
After six months of continuous service, 100% tuition waiver available to full-time employee, spouse and dependents for state-supported courses at any Massachusetts Community or State College or University. A 50% fee waiver shall apply for spouse and dependents for any regular day program offered at any College in the Community College System.

Direct Deposit
Available to all employees – state mandated benefit; employee may have multiple accounts/banks. Takes up to two complete payrolls to become effective.

Holiday
Thirteen paid holidays annually, see Human Resources Web Page for complete listing.

Personal Days/Professional Days
2 Personal days credited on January 1st, must be used by December 31st. New hires personal days will be pro-rated. 2 Professional days credited on January 1st, must be used by December 31st. New hires professional days will be pro-rated.

Sick Leave
Employee will accrue 10 days a year. Unused sick days may be carried over from year to year.

Per College Policy, a request for Leave of Absence is required when an absence exceeds two (2) consecutive calendar weeks. Eligible employees must apply for a Leave of Absence by completing the required paperwork. Contact Human Resources for more details.

Sick Bank
Voluntary enrollment, automatic 7.5 hours assigned to sick bank unless Payroll is notified by 10/30.

Family and Medical Leave Act
FMLA entitles employees to take up to 12 weeks unpaid, job protected leave during a 12 month period for specified family and medical reasons. While on approved, unpaid FMLA, employees may utilize sick and personal accrued time. All leave plans are run concurrently.

Vacation
All professional staff members who work a twelve (12) month year shall be entitled to an annual vacation leave of one hundred sixty five (165) hours or twenty two (22) days. Accruals increase based on years of service. When accruals reach the maximum of 480 hours/64days, vacation will be transferred to sick time.

Personal/ Professional Days
3 personal and 3 professional days credited, for existing employees, every January. 3 days will be pro-rated for new hires, hired 01/01-03/31 22.50 hours, hired 04/01-06/30 15 hours, 07/01-09/30 7.5 hours, after 10/01 0 hours. Must be used by December 31st.

Sick Leave
15 days of sick time annually, sick leave not used in any year may be accumulated.
