Office for Institutional Diversity New England Center for Inclusive Teaching NECIT and Training Workshops for faculty are initiatives of the University of Mass Boston. NECIT was perceived from the beginning as an important vehicle in fostering faculty development to advance the educational benefits of diversity. Through the workshops, we hope to move awareness into practical application on campus. NECIT is housed at the University of Massachusetts, Boston, www.necit.umb.edu, and is the outgrowth of more than twenty years of faculty development work at the Center for the Improvement of Teaching (CIT) at UMass Boston, http://www.cit.umb.edu. NECIT allows members of consortium colleges to attend inclusiveness seminars to enhance sensitivity and perhaps more importantly to share and develop inclusiveness strategies that are brought back to a seminarian’s home institution. As a participant in this initiative, Massasoit has been afforded the opportunity to further build awareness of specific sensitivity and inclusiveness training needs and to provide campus members an opportunity to share their principles and practices in addition to discuss and evaluate our diversity practices.
