How to Prepare
You will benefit most from your tutoring session if you come prepared. Bring a copy of your assignment, your syllabus, and all written work (notes, outlines, drafts) related to your project. Come with specific questions (e.g.: how can I strengthen my thesis?) and be prepared to actively discuss your writing.
What to Expect
Time: A tutoring appointment typically lasts for 30 minutes. You may make a maximum of 3 appointments per week, per subject. Appointments can be made at the front desk of the ARC. Walk-in sessions typically last for 15-20 minutes. You may be asked to work independently when 1) there are other students waiting for assistance, 2) you need to apply the concepts discussed in a tutoring session, and/or 3) you need to prepare before collaborating.
Content: Tutors enhance your learning by discussing your writing with you and by offering strategies for independent improvement.
When to Visit
While we are happy to work with you when you are writing on a tight deadline, we can best assist you earlier in the process. Likewise, you will get more out of the tutoring session. To benefit from our services, we suggest making an initial appointment with us when you receive an assignment from your instructor or when you’ve completed a rough draft.

The Writing Center Schedule
Tutoring is available for all writing, reading, and literature courses, ESL courses, and writing and reading across the curriculum during normal ARC hours:
Monday , Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 8:30 am – 7:00 pm
Friday 8:30 am - 1:00 pm
Saturday 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
*Tutoring hours with ESL Specialists and modern languages instructors (Spanish, French, Portuguese, Cape Verdean/Creole, Arabic)
