The Writing Center offers support for current students who wish to discuss issues related to writing, reading, language acquisition, and study skills. The center provides tutoring for writing and reading courses and for all writing and reading across the curriculum. Our focus is on helping students become more effective learners. Working with peer, professional, and faculty tutors, students gain strategies for strengthening their academic work.
We support students at all stages of the writing process, offering strategies for brainstorming, drafting, revising, and self-proofreading. We also offer support for research, citation, reading comprehension, and general study skills.
Throughout the fall and spring semesters, the center offers writing workshops and ESL conversation groups in addition to tutoring hours. A small number of computers are available for essay composition, internet research, and computer-assisted instruction. We house copies of current textbooks for writing, reading, and literature courses, writing handbooks and resources, and tutor-designed handouts.
The Coordinator for The Writing Center is Johanna Pittman (x1975). |
