During the summer semester, Massasoit will offer two types of distance learning courses: Online courses and Hybrid (or Blended) courses. Distance learning provides a way for you to customize your learning experience to match your educational goals, learning styles, and scheduling constraints.
For more information about distance learning courses, contact the Office of e-Learning and Non-Traditional Programs at (508) 588-9100, ext. 1942 or via e-mail at elearning@massasoit.mass.edu. You can also find information about distance learning courses on the e-Learning Web site.
Online courses allow students to take courses by computer at home, work, or in our computer labs. Each course has a site on the World Wide Web, while assignments and communication with the instructor take place by electronic mail or via a course website. Online courses provide an orientation for students. Additionally, some online courses meet in person during the semester for scheduled lab sessions and/or examinations. Students are required to have readily available computer and internet access for online courses.
Benefits: With Online classes, students meet online during the semester. This gives students the opportunity to experience the individualized, student-centered attention MCC is known for and access campus resources - without having to leave home or rush from work every week.
Orientation sessions for Online courses are offered online and during scheduled face-to-face orientation sessions during the first two weeks of the semester. Students are encouraged to attend one of the orientation sessions. Additional information regarding the online orientations will be sent to student's home address before classes begin.
General Orientation Sessions for online courses will be held on the following dates:
Summer Session I -- Tuesday, May 31 - Thursday, June 2, 2005 from 5:00-8:00 pm in B 111
Summer Session II - Tuesday, July 5 - Thursday, 7, 2005 from 5:00-8:00 pm in B 111

Hybrid (or Blended) courses are a combination of online and face-to-face instruction. The courses typically have course website, have assignments and communication with the instructor that take place by electronic mail, and have approximately half of their class sessions face to face to further explain course material. Students are required to have readily available computer and internet access for hybrid (or blended) courses.
Benefits: Hybrid (or Blended) courses allow students the opportunity to balance the best of two worlds - face to face interaction with your instructor and classmates and the opportunity to experience individualized, student-centered attention while accessing campus resources from home or work.
