Emergency Medical Technician/Basic Certificate (EMT/Basic)

Course Information
This program is offered in partnership with the Institute for Emergency Medical Education. It consists of 136 hours of classroom and skills training, plus a hospital and field internship requiring a minimum of 5 patient assessments and a minimum of 10 hours of observations. The curriculum follows the Federal Department of Transportation guidelines, and exceeds both the Massachusetts Department of Public Health Office of Emergency Medical Services and DOT minimum requirements for training.
EMT/Basic - Non Credit
This program lasts one complete semester. Upon completion of this program, students are eligible to sit for the State of Massachusetts Emergency Medical Technicians Basic Exam . *Tuition does not include the State Exam Fee (s). Students who successfully complete the program are NOT required to take the Massachusetts EMT Exam, but are strongly encouraged to do so. One must pass the State exam in order to be a certified EMT at the Basic Level.

Students who pass the State exam and bring their certification to the Registrar's Office can receive 5 college credits as electives toward their degree.

Prior to beginning clinical rotations, all participants need to provide proof of vaccinations, a current TB test and photo. There are additional requirements to be eligible to sit for the State EMT/Basic Exam.
